Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have discussed adopting a child from Haiti.

The Hollywood couple raise six children together, including three adopted kids. It has been widely reported they are thinking of giving a child left orphaned by the devastating natural disaster in the Caribbean island a home, and Angelina confirmed it is something they have spoken about.

This week the star visited the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince for her role as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, where she met with survivors of the earthquake. Angelina insists she and Brad won't rush into adoption, adding the most important thing is to support the country as it tries to rebuild itself.

"I'm always open to children around the world. We're that kind of a family; Brad and I talk about that," she told CNN. "But that's not what we're focusing on at this time, by any means. We're not here for that. We're here to see how we can help protect the children in country and scale up the needs here."

While in the Caribbean, Angelina has spoken to aid workers and visited SOS Children's Villages, a programme which is caring for kids left orphaned or separated from their parents.

Earlier this week, she advised people against hasty adoptions from the ravaged country. Angelina explained people should concentrate on providing aid for the country, to enable children affected by the natural disaster to stay there.

"New adoptions should definitely not be encouraged as an immediate response to the emergency. Haiti had many trafficking problems before the earthquake and now must keep a very close watch on the children," she said.

"I would encourage as much support as possible to groups like SOS and UNICEF providing care for children in country."
