Katy Perry says there was a "cosmic collision" when she met Russell Brand.

The 25-year-old singer got engaged to the British actor on New Year's Eve in India after a whirlwind romance. Before they started dating, Brand was known for being a womaniser, but he has now vowed to settle down.

Perry insists the funnyman hasn't struggled to be faithful to her and she believes he wanted to ditch his wild ways.

"It was a cosmic collision," Perry said in an interview with the British edition of Glamour magazine. "No one changes unless they want to change themselves. I think he was ready for change. You just don't have the stamina to be in bed with 80 different women a week when you're 35.

"I won't be able to get smashed all the time, but I don't want to. I need time for myself and with him."

The pair are expected to get married later this year and a host of bizarre ideas have been linked to their nuptials. It has been reported the pair are planning to marry underwater, wear matching Latex outfits and have P Diddy singing as Perry walks down the aisle.

Perry has laughed off the rumours, but has revealed she wants her beloved cats to take part in the ceremony. "My cats will of course be involved," she explained. "Krusty will be the flower girl."

Brand has also refused to give away any details about their wedding, but has hinted the event could take place in an exotic location. "All I can tell you is that wife-to-be is in charge and passports are needed," he told Celebs on Sunday magazine.

Brand went on to speak about the vows he will make with Katy on their wedding day. He insists he isn't concerned about promising to commit to her, because he doesn't want to be with anyone else.

"That's one of the things about the institution of marriage," he explained. "You must be faithful and I don't have a problem with that because I'm really, really in love."
