Eva Longoria has revealed she finds it "therapeutic" to cook.

The actress is a huge food fan and own Beso Steakhouse eateries in Hollywood and Las Vegas. She is currently promoting her first cookbook, Eva's Kitchen, which contains a host of her favourite recipes.

Despite her hectic schedule filming popular American television show Desperate Housewives, Eva always finds time to rustle up a tasty meal.

"It's very creative for me... therapeutic. I find great comfort in cooking," she told USA Today. "I know good fruit and vegetables when I see it."

Eva's divorce from basketball star Tony Parker was finalised earlier this year and the beauty admits she used to love cooking for him.Now she enjoys inviting her closest pals over for dinner and has fond memories of her mother making homemade meals for her family each night.

Eva thinks it is important for families to spend time eating together and she likes to catch up with her loved ones while she tucks into her evening meal.

"My mom had four kids going to four different schools, one with special needs, she had a full-time job and a husband who wanted dinner on the table every day at six. Now, it's such a forced thing that parents have to do for their kids," she added.

"Growing up, it was enjoyable. We really couldn't wait till our dad got home because that meant we could eat.

"I cooked a lot when I was married. And now my girlfriends are always waiting for me to get home, asking 'What's for dinner, what's for dinner?' "

Eva is very proud of her new book. The 36-year-old star describes it as a "memoir of my life through food" and she hopes people will enjoy the personal recipes she has created while cooking for her friends and family. She insists anyone will find the recipes easy to follow even if they aren't highly skilled cooks.

"The book is very accessible for people like me who love to cook but who maybe don't have the background," she added. "A dash of this, a pinch of that."
