Jessica Simpson has declared that she is proud of her body.

In an interview conducted with Lucky magazine before she announced she was pregnant with her first baby, the reality star turned fashion mogul spoke about being comfortable in her skin.

She said that she was finally at peace with her body after her much-publicised weight gains and losses.

"Everybody fluctuates, but I'm open about my weight and I'm still confident," the 31-year-old revealed.

"I didn't cry about it too much. I like the way I look."

The mother-to-be said that her curves have actually helped her $US1 billion (NZ$1.2 billion) fashion empire.

"I got so much scrutiny for putting on extra pounds, but I think that the decision not to make myself anorexic was actually great for branding," she said.

"Because when you're really, really skinny, not everybody can relate to you."

Simpson got engaged to fiance Eric Johnson, 32, last November but the pair have yet to firm up any wedding plans.

"I haven't started shopping for our wedding yet," she admitted.

"When I got engaged, everyone thought I would get married immediately, but I have not put a single dress on, and by the time this comes out I will not be married. We're just enjoying being engaged right now - and that's honest."

Simpson said that she met Johnson at the perfect time which has helped their relationship.

"When I met him I just felt so comfortable with myself and where I was in my life," she said.

"If he didn't want to be a part of it, he didn't have to be."

Simpson has not announced when she is due but experts have estimated she is about six months along in her pregnancy.
