Baseball superstar Alex Rodriguez is reportedly just weeks away from shelling out NZ$109.5 million for a Manhattan penthouse to be closer to Madonna.
According to Britain's The Daily Mail newspaper, Rodriguez - known to baseball fans as "A-Rod" - is in the final stages of sealing the deal on the lavish four-bedroom pad in New York's Central Park West.
The NY Yankees slugger has been romantically linked to Madonna for some time and the building is said to be just two blocks away from the pop superstar's home.
"Alex is moving closer to Madonna," a longtime friend of A-Rod was quoted as telling New York's Daily News.
"I wouldn't say they are an item, but he has a strong attraction to her."
Rodriguez recently divorced his wife, Cynthia, while Madonna split from her director husband, Guy Ritchie, earlier this month. They are involved in bitter divorce proceedings.
The huge apartment is the home to many stars including Sting - who, ironically, introduced Ritchie to Madonna in 1998.
The Daily Mail also predicted that Madonna and Rodriguez will go public with their feelings for one another in the coming months, adding that the singer was hoping to enlarge her family with Rodriguez.
