He might have been thrilled with how The Hobbit turned out, but legendary director Peter Jackson initially found the prospect of working with 13 dwarves "terrifying".
Unsurprisingly, it was Hobbit fever in the latest gossip magazines to hit the shelves.
Jackson told Woman's Weekly that he never wanted to direct The Hobbit, due to hit the big screen for its first public screening next week.
"I never wanted to do The Hobbit in the first place because the idea of having an ensemble of 13 dwarves terrified me," he said.
It was a stressful and painful couple of years leading up to the filming, with movie giant MGM going bankrupt and director Guillermo del Torro pulling out of the film, but it all came together in the end, Jackson told the magazine.
"The weird thing is, having ended up where I am, the fact that there are 13 dwarves in it is the great joy of the movie."
Honor and Dan Carter's news last week that they are expecting an Autumn baby and Toni Street's appointment as the new host of TVNZ's Breakfast show also unfolded in the women's magazines this week, but international news took centre stage, with plenty to gossip about.
Secret information about Scientology is set to be revealed in a tell-all documentary, and the man behind the film says Katie Holmes will be vindicated, with the world finding out exactly why she left the religion and husband Tom Cruise.
"This is terrifying for Scientologists, who have all played key roles in an organisation which has destroyed so many lives and so many families," documentary boss Tony Ortega told Woman's Day.
"One of the most powerful things about this documentary is that those interviewed took part in the wrongdoing themselves. Now they're speaking out, revealing everything Scientology tried to bury."
One of those who was expected to reveal all was Cruise's alleged ex-girlfriend Nazanin Boniadi.
"We are talking about a 25-year-old woman being forced [by the church] to clean toilets with a toothbrush and dig ditches in the middle of the night for punishment for not pleasing Tom during their relationship," Ortega said.
In other religious news, the "half" man in Two and a Half Men went on a religious tirade, telling the public that television is dangerous and they shouldn't watch the hit show he has starred in for nearly half his life.
Child star Angus T Jones, now 19, became a Seventh Day Adventist when his parents divorced and said it helped him get off a dangerous path involving drugs, but his mother says the church is exploiting him.
The actor, who is reportedly one of the world's richest teenagers, featured on a video posted online by Forerunner Christian Church pleading with people not to watch the show, New Idea reported.
"Please stop watching Two and a Half Men. I'm on Two and a Half Men and I don't want to be on it. Please stop watching it. Please stop filling your head with filth," he said, before adding: "You cannot be a God-fearing person and be on a show like that".
But Jones seemed to have a change of mind after the video was released. He released a statement apologising for his comments and was understood to still be working on the show, with no immediate plans to leave.
Just when you thought that perhaps, for once, the Royal Family had failed to make it into the women's magazines this week, think again.
A glowing and slightly more rounded Duchess of Cambridge featured in Woman's Day, New Idea and on the cover of Woman's Weekly.
Consensus is she has put on a few kilograms, either to prepare her body for pregnancy or because she is already pregnant.
But while life might be quite peachy for Kate, her sister Pippa's life is rumoured to be falling apart.
Pippa Middleton has gone from one of the most highly regarded and talked about females in the world when that bottom stole the show at her sister's wedding, to having a string of failed relationships and her much anticipated book being a flop, according to New Idea.
