Kiwi entertainer Lynda Topp will marry fiancee, Donna Luxton, in the mid-Canterbury town of Staveley this month.

Timaru man Doug Blakie says he will be playing drums with band Tightazz at the Topp Twin's wedding reception.

He said he could not comment further on the matter as there was a code of confidentiality surrounding the event.

Blakie said earlier media reports that Timaru band Coyotes, of which he is also a member, would play at the event were incorrect.

It was reported that exclusive rights to the wedding have been granted to a women's magazine, and it is understood the event will be held at the couple's shared business, Topp Lodge, northwest of Ashburton, which offers fully licensed functions for up to 80 people.

The report said the couple will join in a civil union and consider it a marriage.

A parliamentary select committee this week recommended a bill to legalise same-sex marriage be passed into law and the legislation's second reading is scheduled for March 13.

The first reading passed by 80 votes to 40.
