Kristen Bell has joked that her newborn baby girl is just like her dad Dax Shepard "pre-sobriety".

The 32-year-old Forgetting Sarah Marshall star logged onto Twitter shortly after the actor confirmed the couple had welcomed their first child on Thursday (local time).

She was quick to offer unusual insight into the personality of little Lincoln Bell Shepard.

"My new roomate poops her pants and doesn't pay rent ... basically Dax Shepard pre-sobriety. Welcome baby Lincoln xo (sic)," she tweeted.

Shepherd shared the news earlier Thursday afternoon with a hearty remark of his own.

"Lincoln Bell Shepard is here. She has mom's beauty and dad's obsession with breasts. Hooray!!!" he wrote on the micro-blog.

Bell and Shepherd began dating in 2007 and announced they were expecting their first child back in November.

Bell admitted two months later she was terrified about going into labour as her belly began to blossom.

Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres on the comedienne's US chat show in January she joked about her desire for much more than an epidural.

"I feel like, when I arrive at the hospital, I want a glass of whiskey, I want the epidural in my back and I want to get hit in the face with a baseball bat," she laughed.

"And wake me up when it's over because I've seen the videos - and it looks terrifying."
