Jim Carrey counter-sues ex-girlfriend's mother
Jim Carrey has waged his own war in the courts against the mother of his late ex-girlfriend.
The Dumb & Dumber star has filed documents in which he claims tragic Cathriona White's mum, Brigid Sweetman, begged him to buy her a house and threatened suicide.
Carrey alleges Sweetman emailed him in November, 2015, two months after her daughter took her life in California, to inform the actor that people had started making death threats against her and vandalising her home.
She believed she was getting blamed for Cathriona's death because of a "horrific and degrading" Facebook post she'd left for her daughter on the third anniversary of her father's death.
Jim claims Brigid told him, "I am on the point of killing myself", before asking him to buy her a new home.
Carrey insists she became "angry and bitter" when he declined.
White's mum filed a wrongful death suit against the movie star earlier this month (Oct16). His legal team fired back immediately, insisting the lawsuit was a money grab.
Carrey has also denied claims from Sweetman and Cathriona's estranged husband Mark Burton he gave the makeup artist sexually transmitted diseases, illnesses that allegedly contributed to White's decision to commit suicide.
Sweetman promised to drop her wrongful death lawsuit if Carrey publicly released the results of an alleged sexual health test.
A statement issued to TheWrap.com read: "Jim Carrey and his attorney have told the world that Carrey has never had STDs and he has never tested positive for STDs. They have called me and Mark 'shams' for claiming otherwise.
"I am demanding they immediately release the full 2013 lab results so people can judge for themselves who is telling the truth and who is lying. If they publicly release and publish the full Quest Diagnostics lab report for the blood sample Carrey gave on January 28, 2013 at 11:40am under the name 'Jose Lopez' and if it shows Carrey did not test positive for STDs, I will immediately dismiss the case and apologise."
