Australian X Factor winner Reece Mastin is embroiled in a sexting scandal.

A Newcastle, New South Wales, girl claims that the singer has tried to solicit nude images from her, news.com.au reported.

The publication says it has obtained private messages sent from someone using Mastin's Twitter account in which he asked the teen to send a "secret snapchat".

Snapchat is a messaging app that allows people to send photos which will be hidden from the recipient's device after a short while.

After the person posing as Mastin asked the teenager to send him a picture on Snapchat, she responded: "You have a girlfriend so it wouldn't be appropriate."

He responded: "I do I do hahaha. Secret Snapchat?"

The girl, whose name was not released, was faced with a backlash from fans of the teenage heart-throb accusing her of making up the story.

"I have photos and a video to proove (sic) it. He asked for them while with Rhiannon, so many boys do it," she tweeted, referring to the singer's girlfriend, Home and Away actress Rhiannon Fish.

She insisted there was no reason why she would have lied. "Why would i lie about something like this, especially since i was such a huge fan," (sic).

Mastin also tweeted about the incident, thanking his fans for not believing "this stupid thing."
