A middle-aged US man could soon be achieving his dream of sniffing Taylor Swift's hair thanks to the power of social media.

Boston radio station, Kiss 108, is holding a contest for Swift fans where the winner receives two tickets to her upcoming concert, as well as the chance to meet her and pose for a photo together.

Contestants must explain in 137 characters why they deserve to meet the country singer, and then gather votes to push them up the leaderboard.

First place is currently held by Charles Z, who said in his entry""I'm a 39 year old man and I love Taylor so much and don't care that both adults and children mock me for it. But I feel 22 if that helps."

An anonymous friend of Charles posted the link on the internet site 4chan, with the message "A local radio station has a contest going to give some lucky teeny bopper a chance to meet [Taylor Swift].

"My creepy 39 year old friend named Charles would like to crush all those girls dreams (and then sniff Taylor Swifts hair cuz he's into that), by winning this instead. Help him crush the dreams of these girls and give him a chance to make a complete ass of himself by blatantly just sniffing her hair with cameras rolling."

News of Charles' aspirations spread to websites such as Reddit and Imgur, and he rapidly shot to the top of the leaderboard.

"4chan is like the make a wish foundation but more hilarious," said one Imgur user.

"Bless you Charles," said another, "Let that mustache gently graze Taylor's hair."

Concerns have been raised that 4chan users rigged the competition by setting up a script to make 500 computers around the world vote every five minutes, according to The Daily Dot.

This would take Charles out of the running, as "receiv[ing] multiple and/or irregular votes from the same user or users" is grounds for disqualification.

The competition ends July 21.

Let's just hope Charles is a bit less creepy than this guy who professed his love for Selena Gomez.
