Lorde opens up: 'After a break-up, you go to these crazy places'
Lorde has opened up about the phenomenal four years since she burst on to the music scene with breakthrough album Pure Heroine in 2013.
Ella Yelich-O'Connor's upcoming second album is due out this month and charts a night in the life of a house party.
In an interview with the Daily Telegraph's Stellar magazine in Australia, Lorde discussed meeting David Bowie in New York, a break-up with a boyfriend, drinking and making music.
The two years spent touring and travelling after the release of Pure Heroine spurred her to spend time back home.

She broke up with her boyfriend, James Lowe, a photographer.
Her new album includes a song called Sober and, in the interview, she said she did some drinking as she entered adulthood.
"I probably was [self-medicating].
"There was an element of escapism and exploration and wanting to be myself in strange situations and see what happens. After a break-up, you go to these crazy places. I definitely did."
She said she was the girl at the party encouraging one more drink but these days she was quite well-behaved.
"I don't know if I have really had a bad one [experience]. I don't really get a hangover, I am still at that age. I definitely inspire people to keep drinking."
She features on the cover of the June 4 edition of Stellar magazine. Her new album Melodrama is out on June 16.
