Simon Cowell's girlfriend has given birth.

The 54-year-old music mogul welcomed his first child, a boy, with partner Lauren Silverman in New York on Valentine's Day.

Eric was named after Cowell's father, he tweeted. Silverman was "in great shape".

An official statement from the couple has not yet been released.

Although Simon is becoming a father for the first time, Lauren is already mother to seven-year-old son Adam, whom she shares with ex-husband Andrew Silverman.

Rumours circulated on Twitter that the socialite went into labour on Friday and Simon rushed from the UK to the US to be with her.

"I was told excl Simon Cowell might become a Valentine's Day dad after rushing to NY to be by Lauren's side. Breaking now @TheSunNewspaper (sic)," Lia Nicholls, editor of British newspaper The Sun's Bizarre section, wrote to her almost 2500 followers.

Simon has been spending time in the UK to attend auditions for the upcoming series of Britain's Got Talent.
It's believed he had a private jet on standby just in case Lauren went into labour.

Their baby boy wasn't thought to be due until the end of the month, meaning the infant is two weeks early.

Simon previously revealed he's prepared to get hands-on as a dad, but admits it won't come naturally.

"I'm not brilliant with babies," Simon told Parade magazine.

"I never know what to do. But [once he's older] I think I'll be a good dad in terms of advice. And then I'll get to do all the things I want to do, like go to Disneyland or Universal Studios, teach him how to drive - I love all that."
