Shia LaBeouf has confirmed a fifth Indiana Jones film is in the pipeline, and that director Steven Spielberg has been working on a script for it.

LaBeouf - who starred in last year's fourth film in the franchise, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - said a fifth film was definitely in pre-production in a new interview.

"Stephen (Spielberg) just said that he cracked a story on it before I left, and I think they're gearing that up," he told BBC reporter Lizo Mzimba in London.

Crystal Skull - the follow-up to 1981's Raiders of the Lost Ark, 1984's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and 1989's Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - was a box office hit, earning almost US$800 million worldwide.

It helped make Harrison Ford last year's highest paid actor in Hollywood, with an income of NZ$112 million.

But the film was slammed by critics for its bizarre plot, which included Soviet agents, Peru's Nazca Lines and aliens.

It was the topic of a bad taste episode of animated comedy show South Park that featured George Lucas and Steven Spielberg raping Indiana Jones.

LaBeouf, the star of upcoming blockbuster Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, also confirmed he will star in a sequel to Wall Street called Money Never Sleeps.

It will again be directed by Oliver Stone.

The 4th one was pretty bollocks, though in my honest opinion was better than the 2nd (Temple of Doom).

What the problem was for alot of Indy fans/gamers was that we had hopes of the next movie being based on the Fate of Atlantis game made over a decade ago. That game had quite a solid story and may of translated well into film, instead we go Crystal.

In terms of aliens being a problem. I just can't see it, each Indy film has been based around bizarre religous practices, Holy Grail, the Ark, and the Voodoo like one used in Temple. It is no hidden fact that many other religous groups had strong beliefs in aliens and it sadly does make logical sense to include that in the film when you really look at it.

The problem for me was that one, Shia LeBouf I don't believe is ready to have such a torch handed to him. Indiana Jones is one of the most beloved film charecters ever (reaching number 1 on many lists including the recent Empire magazien list) and to have it handed to him that hes the heir to the fedora when hes still just finding his footing in this business was pretty poor, I realise its hard to find a young actor to place in this position and I can't name any so maybe the idea should be scrapped. Either way I don't beleave that Shia has earnt that prestige yet.

Also the problem was that they had changed the style to far to great of an extent, there were some very Indiana moments in the film, including the fridge scene which also cuts a lot of flack. However if you watch the films back to back you will notice that the fridge scene isn't exactly out of place. However many of the other moments in the film aren't the same and their way of trying to incorprate modern humour is just sad. The original trilogy still makes me chuckle and I'm 23. The age they seemed to of been targeting, but failed.

And yes. the monkeys were awful.

Indy’s sphincter has only just healed. Please George and Steven no more.

This is perfect, I can't wait! I loved No. 4 (I understood it because I payed attention, some people expected too much with Indy 4)

@Justin 39, "Indiana Jones and the Desecration of the Ancient Franchise", hahahaha brilliant, thanks for that - it made my morning!

Yes, part 4 was in equal parts bizarre, lacklustre and disappointing. Amazing how it made Harrison Ford the highest paid actor in Hollywood!

Shia was good in the part. With a better storyline, as the Indiana Jones Concept is great. I'm looking forward to it.

YES absolutely. A 5th Indiana Jones would be fantastic!

According to the 4th movie there is a whole period of Indys Life when he was an OSS officer during WW2 (For those who do not know the OSS Office of Strategic Services was a United States intelligence agency formed during World War II. It was the wartime intelligence agency, and it was the predecessor of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). This opens up huge potential when it comes to another movie/s. Esspecially since Indys arch enemies have always been the Nazis and they make great bad guys, hence why more people enjoyed Indy 1 and 3 over 2 and 4...you just have to have those damn evil Nazis. However you will need to reboot. Unfortunately Harrison Ford is too old to pull off 1942- 1945 Indiana Jones. The question is who can take up the Indiana Jones mantle? Who can wear the Hat and whip and reeboot the Indy Series? And dont say it can not be done I think it has beenh proven with other movies that it can be... its just a question of finding the right person for the job. Any suggestion?

Can't wait to miss that. On the other hand it can't be worse than the last installment.
