Ending a complete lack of suspense, director Michael Bay has confirmed that he will shoot a third Transformers film and the release date has been brought forward by exactly one year to July 1, 2011.

Stars Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox are slated to return to the Paramount/DreamWorks project, as is Ehren Kruger, the co-writer of this year's hit sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

The first two films have grossed more than $1.5 billion worldwide.

Bay wrote on his website that he met with George Lucas' ILM effects house in San Francisco Thursday morning, and then flew with Kruger to talk new characters with Hasbro executives in Rhode Island.

"Well, it's official: We have a great Transformers 3 story," Bay said on his website. "Today is Day One."

Paramount's summer 2011 is shaping up to have four tentpoles: Marvel features Thor and First Avenger: Captain America bow May 20 and July 22, respectively.

And the DreamWorks Animation sequel Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom hits theatres June 3.

T1 was good, T2 was crap... hopefully they have T3 with a better story. Human transformers...WTF. Prefer seeing a good story line with special effects and action than the eye candy who can't act.

Cool regardless of all the armchair film critics out there who think every movie has to be gone with the wind or some sort comment on modern culture another one would be cool. Movies like Tf1 and Tf2 are good to sit and watch and enjoy action with giant robots and explosions and not have to care about being all cerebral. Like Megan fox or not she is part of the story now so suck it up and enjoy the film for what it is light hearted entertainment. And bring on Omega Supreme

Get rid of Megan Fox! It was nice the kid scored the hot chic in the first movie, but she was like a 3rd sock in the 2nd!

Secondly, transformers disguised as humans? WTF?!

Cant unerstand why Michael Bay insists on ruining a good thing by stuffing his sequels with over-the-top action scenes, bimbos, things that hump other things and lame jokes! (see also Bad Boys 2)

I was REALLY disppointed in the 2nd T2 movie. I though the story line was terrible and the movie was a big let down. Don't know if I'll go see the 3rd one.

What about Grimlock?

Orion Pax #40 - Thanks, I don't think a full remake would work, but I do think having Unicron and Galvatron story would/could work well. Also, Bumblebee is cool and all but I want to see Hot Rod and Ultra Magnus.

Also, anyone else think a director/producer combo of Peter Jackson and JJ Abrams would make any Transformers movie 1000x better?

Yes I will be looking forward to the third movie! Loved both the 1st and 2nd movies. My family will be very excited to hear there is going to be a third movie!!!
