Peter Jackson says filming on Lord of the Rings prequel The Hobbit will be delayed by a few months next year in a new interview with a German website, and the film's release date could be pushed back.

Jackson, who was doing the interview to promote upcoming film The Lovely Bones, told moviereporter.net that filming of The Hobbit would movie from March to June next year.

"We're currently working on the second script which we hope to have completed by the end of this year or beginning of next," Jackson said.

"When the scripts are completed, we can begin with the exact calculation of the necessary budget. We hope to start filming in the middle of next year. However, we've received no green light from the studio yet."

On movie website TheWrap.com, sources were quoted as saying the film's release date would be affected.

"Executives close to the project said that Warner Brothers is now likely to release the first film at the end of 2012, and not at the end of 2011 as had been hoped for by the fans.

"The second part would be pushed to 2013."

Jackson is writing The Hobbit, which will be released in two parts, with director Guillermo del Toro in Wellington.

The biggest problem with pushing back The Hobbit is that this will likely also push back the release of the blu-ray Extended Cut Versions of the Lord of the Rings movies. It is killing me that my three favoriate movies are not available in blu-ray (in the extended versions). Most people believe that the exteneded versions will not be released unitl a couple months before The Hobbit is released to theaters. That is what they did with the extended cut versions of the LOTR movies (held their release until just before the next installment of the movie was released).

Oh no! Major Bummer! My daily hit of any news/gossip/rumour about Peter Jackson and Signor del Toro and their mad kingkongdom have been completely ruined. I shall have to go into psychological trauma counselling on the news that the hairy feeted pixis have been delayed. This is a bad day for all of us nerds who have nothing better to do than not to wash for weeks, and hang out for the next enthralling instalment of what sounds like a project that is rapidly moving towards the cliff top of a great chasm.
