James Cameron has a "road map" for an Avatar sequel.
The legendary director is thrilled audiences have responded so well to his sci-fi epic, which recently became the highest-grossing film of all time and has received nine nominations at this year's Academy Awards.
He is already feverishly planning a second, third and even fourth film, and plans to start working on the next one immediately.
"It wasn't really planned as a trilogy," Cameron explained. "I mapped out a second and a third story, but the second story is more in focus. The third story is fainter and if there were a fourth story, it would be fainter yet.
"I have a road map for Avatar 2. I know where I'm going with it and I'm not planning any long hiatus before I start work again."
Cameron insisted he always wanted to make more than one Avatar movie because he had invested so much money into props and technology. He claimed it wouldn't make good business sense to quit after one when you could make more for much less money.
"There was always this notion that it made sense from a business standpoint that if we invested all this money in the first film, that our margin would be less than it would be on the second film, where the assets already existed," he explained to Empire magazine.

love the movie and if you are reading this james cameron plz plz!!! make another 1 plz i think you can do even better than first by a long shot but make sure you have all the same actors like in the first 1 ps i love your movie
First, let me begin by saying that I am a very tough critic, and I just have to have my movies to be perfect, or as close to it as makes no difference. My friends often say that I am very critical of things, so bear this in mind.
AVATAR IS THE BEST MOVIE IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE!!!!!
When people say the plot is crap, it is actually just been used before, namely The Last Samurai, which was very good. The SFX are absolutely amazing and the actors were brilliant. The 3D technology is exceptional, and sometimes makes you forget that it is even in 3D. You only remember that it is in 3D when a scene that looks 2D turns up, and those are rare. There are only 3 movie sequels that I have ever seen that are better than the ones before them, and they are Aliens, Terminator 2 and Blade 2, and James Cameron directed the first two of those. If anyone can make a sequel to avatar that does the impossible and is better than the first then that person is James Cameron. So I say: Go JC! I personally can't wait for the rest of the trilogy. Please make even more after that! I am a massive fan of James Cameron. Avatar Rules!
I just recently rented this movie on saturday and I have already watched it almost 8-10 times. I am mesmerized by the animation and detail. The reason I like the movie this much is because it tells the story of the american indian except instead of us coming To a new continent we come to a new planet and instead of territorial indians. We find hostile blue 10 ft tall cat people. I think James Cameron needs to stick with this plot and make a sequel just like it.
Go and ride a bike you people thats better than spending 18 bucks watching 2D screen pretend to be 3D
loved avatar best movie ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've seen the movie 6 or 7 times in the last week, one of them in an IMAX 3D version. The best movie i ever saw in my life. I can't compare it to anything else. Also the storry, which is attacked hardly on our hungarian forums. Each time after i saw it, i feel sad, because it is over... so i NEED the 2nd part of it. :) and the 3rd, 4th etc. GREAT JOB Mr. Cameron! Thank you very much from me and all of us fans. "Köszönöm" in my language.
The film is astonishing, apart from the story obviously. Quite predictable. A sequel will surely ruin the first film. Shame. Shame it's all about the money.
yeah, i'm REEEEEALLY excited for this sequel. i gotta admit- i'm a little nervous that it'll ruin the magic of the first. honestly, it was so majestic that it would be hard to live up to. but, of course, i still want another one. or, another 50,000,000 rather. ;D
So far I have seen Avatar 10 times and plan to see it many more times for as long as it is showing. To me Avatar is the greatest film of all time and nothing has had such an impact on me. I applaud James Cameron - he is a genius and he deserves the enormous success he has had.
