DVD review: The Ugly Truth

Kathrine Heigl continues her mission to become the queen of the romantic comedy in The Ugly Truth, but this misfire isn't likely to get her the crown.
The Grey's Anatomy star plays Abby, a TV producer who hasn’t had much luck with men. Mike (Gerard Butler) is the obnoxious, brutally honest advice guru on her morning show.
She decides to take his advice on a new relationship to prove she can get herself a man. You'll work out the plot 30 seconds into this film.
Heigl plays the standoffish, desperately single TV producer to a tee, while Butler is a good sparring partner.
There are a couple of scenes which are cringe-inducing and prove that Heigl is a very good sport, or will do just about anything for a laugh.
The writing is cheesy and predictable but that makes the film easy to watch without engaging too many brain cells. It's best watched with a couple of friends and a bottle of wine.
Extras: Special features include a commentary by director Robert Luketic and producer Gary Lucchesi, two features and deleted scenes.

Wat BRILLIANT movie... I LOVE IT... xxx
LOVED IT! I thought that this movie was great! And although you can figure out the ending watching it happen was great. I had to close my eyes for a bit at the cringe moments. But it was great!!! My faviourt film yet.
Wish your review had come out sooner I could've saved myself the $8 hirage - I watched about 20 mins of this movie and had to stop the torture - excruciatingly boring.
Not a movie I would recommend.
I thought the movie was hilarious! I spent a lot of time wetting myself, mostly because Gerard's character very much relates to the personality of my brother so I somewhat projected on him :)
It was a very good laugh for me, possibly one of my favourite movies of last year.
I had the misfortune of sitting through this, and I think your 2.5 stars is being overly generous.
Awful movie! Felt like a smutty version of "Someone Like You" (2001) but with absolutely no chemistry between the leads and plenty of smutt remove any romance aspect from the storyline. No No No!
