Oscar-winning composer Howard Shore, who was dumped from King Kong, has signed up to work on The Hobbit.

Creative differences were blamed for Shore's split with Peter Jackson just weeks before the King Kong premiere, but the pair will resume their work together that started on the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which netted them both Academy Awards.

Shore confirmed he was "starting to work" on The Hobbit.

"A lot of the group is coming back together to work on it. It's really a wondrous occasion. It's a fantastic guide for me to be able to go back to Middle-earth," he said.

I absolutely agree. Howard Shore composed a beautiful and powerful score for the Lord of the Rings and will do so for the Hobbit as well. It's great that they are keeping so many of the same elements from the trilogy for the new movie. It will be good for the continuity.

Great. But what's the betting though that in the end the Hobbit director will end up being Jackson? Will the new director storm off in a temper?
