Jemaine Clement gives classic film lines a Kiwi twist

Ever see a great film and just wish the actors had a slightly more familiar voice?

More crackly, less emotional, like every word was a kind of uncomfortable obligation?

Prayers, answered. Flight of the Conchords star Jemaine Clement, on the promotional tour for his new film People, Places, Things, has recorded a collection of classic movie lines in his still-heavy Kiwi accent.

The video, filmed for Yahoo Movies, showcases Clement's dramatic range over clips of the films in question, from Mean Girls through Goodfellas, Rocky, The Shining, Old School and Ransom.

"All characters in any movie could be improved by having a New Zealand accent," explained Clement.

Perhaps most of all the first character Clement takes on - Russell Crowe's Maximus in Gladiator.

"This is Russell Crowe in Gladiator had he maintained his natural New Zealand accent."

If only. People, Places, Things, hits New Zealand theatres on September 10.
