Kiwi director Taika Waititi set to take the helm of Hollywood blockbuster Thor 3
Kiwi director Taika Waititi is tipped to direct Hollywood blockbuster movie Thor 3.
The Oscar-nominated director is in negotiations for the third instalment of the Thor franchise, starring Australian actor Chris Hemsworth, according to The Wrap.
Waititi is famed for his vampire spoof Into the Shadows, indie film Eagle vs Shark and the critically acclaimed Boy, as well as directing several episodes of TV series Flight of the Conchords.
He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Short Film in 2004 for Two Cars, One Night, and has penned the script for upcoming Disney movie Moana.
Waititi has some familiarity with the superhero genre - he co-starred in DC Comics movie Green Lantern in 2011.
However Thor 3 will signal a huge move into directing Hollywood blockbusters for Waititi.
The first two Thor films grossed a combined total of US$1 billion.
Marvel, which produces the films, has not commented on Waititi's appointment.
The third film, Thor: Ragnarok, is due to be released in July 2017.
