A Facebook user told Stuff her brother was involved with the film and that the star was in the city.

It was announced in October that she would have a big part in the movie, based on Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mezieres' 1967 graphic novelĀ Valerian and Laureline.

Besson, whose 2014 hitĀ Lucy, starring Scarlett Johansson, dominated the box office, posted on Twitter that he was "in the land of Peter Jackson".

His Instagram has also featured photos of Wellington at dawn and of film testing at Weta.

It is thought Rihanna has also been involved in the tests.

Weta Digital will be creating many of the alien charactersĀ for the film.

Head of marketing Dave Gouge said Weta would not comment on the film, except to confirm that it would be working on it.
