Matrix creators the Wachowski siblings both transgender
Lilly Wachowski, formerly Andy, has followed in her sister's footsteps, by coming out as a transgender woman.
Variety reported that the Matrix co-creator, now known as Lilly, announced the news in a statement on Tuesday.
Lilly's sister and directing partner, Lana, came out as transgender in the early 2000s.
Lilly told Windy City News she felt under pressure from UK tabloid The Daily Mail and thought she might be outed.
She said a reporter from The Daily Mail asked to "tell my story which was so inspirational" but slammed the news outlet's history with transgender issues.
"And ... here they were, at my front door, almost as if to say - "There's another one! Let's drag 'em out in the open so we can all have a look!""
"So yeah, I'm transgender," she went on. "And yeah, I've transitioned."
The Wachowskis rose to fame with The Matrix in 1999, completing the trilogy in 2003.
Last year, the duo released Jupiter Ascending, starring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis, and also recently co-created the Netflix series Sense8.
