Create buzz for Hunt for the Wilderpeople premiere and meet Taika Waititi and Sam Neill

Taika Waititi's film Hunt for the Wilderpeople debuted at Sundance Film Festival.

Movie lovers across the country are invited to don their best Swannie, polish their gumboots, and walk the 'red carpet' for a syndicated nationwide premiere of Taika Waititi's new film Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

Blenheim's Top Town Cinemas is among more than 40 cinemas across New Zealand signed up to screen the movie at the same time on March 30.

The cinemas will compete to host the country's best premiere.

"We want to share our premiere with as many Kiwis as we can, and are looking forward to seeing everyone on opening night," Waititi said.

Cinema owners were encouraged to decorate their foyers with a Hunt for the Wilderpeople theme, and partner with their community to make it a night to remember.

A live stream from the official Auckland premiere, including interviews with the cast and crew, would play ahead of the film.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople was based on Barry Crump's novel Wild Pork and Watercress and follows Ricky (Dennison), a defiant young city boy who finds himself on the run with his cantankerous foster uncle (Neill) in the New Zealand bush. A national manhunt ensues, and the two are forced to put aside their differences and work together.

The film opens on March 31. Tickets for the special regional premiere events are on sale, and details can be found at
