Wellington will not host the premiere of the second Hobbit movie.

Sir Peter Jackson this morning revealed a poster for the second part of The Hobbit trilogy, the Desolation of Smaug, which opens on December 13. A first teaser trailer will be released Wednesday morning.

Embassy Theatre in central Wellington was the venue for the world premiere of the first in the trilogy, An Unexpected Journey, late last year.

Thousands packed into Courtenay Place for the red carpet event.

During a high-profile stoush between unions and film-makers in 2010, that forced changes to New Zealand industrial laws, the Government intervened.

Part of a deal signed with Warner Bros and New Line Cinema said at least one of the world premieres had to be held in New Zealand.

Jackson's spokesman Matt Dravitzki this morning confirmed the second premiere would not be held in New Zealand this year.
