Adam Sandler has been a big hit for Netflix, with the streaming service singling out his films for praise in a quarterly report.

Adam Sandler is proving to be one of Netflix's biggest - and most unlikely - hits.

Users of the popular streaming service have watched more than 500 million hours of Sandler movies since December 2015.

Netflix, which has spent billions on original content for its platform, has hired Sandler to make no less than seven movies.

The deal began in December 2015 with the release of quasi-Western The Ridiculous 6, and has been extended for six more movies. The Do-Over, co-starring Sandler and David Spade, came out last year and Sandler's third film for Netflix, Sandy Wexler, was released last week.

All three films have been critically panned ... but that obviously hasn't stopped people watching them.

Netflix's first quarter report revealed just how popular Sandler's movies have been.

"Since the launch of The Ridiculous 6, Netflix members have spent more than half a billion hours enjoying the films of Adam Sandler," the report said.

"We continue to be excited by our Sandler relationship and our members continue to be thrilled with his films."
