The Topp Twins are working on a new movie - and they want the public's help to get it made.

The celebrated Kiwi comics are crowd-funding for feature film The Long Drop, which will see them reprise classic characters "The Kens".

The production is trying to raise at least $25,000 through the platform Boosted. The money will go towards writing and workshopping the script.

Cuthbert is the Topp Twins long-time manager and producer, while Morgan-Rhind has directed Jools and Lynda Topp in three seasons of their Kiwi road trip series, Topp Country

The Long Drop is set the year 2022, when the small and fictional high-country town of Mollerville has run out of water. Even the bowling green's gone dry.

Lynda Topp's Kenny Boy Moller faces the heartbreaking task of selling of his now-unviable family farm. When a giant new aquifer is discovered beneath Mollerville, Kenny Boy and his journalist mate Ken Smythe (Jools Topp) find themselves at the centre of an international war for water.

"While big contemporary issues, such as water quality and control, gender fluidity and acceptance, are tackled within our story, we will steer away from cliches and sterotypes that are often thrown up whenever alternative realities come together," the film's Boosted page promises.

"Although the film deals with a serious subject it will nevertheless be a hilarious and entertaining romp through the New Zealand countryside."

If the production raises enough money, shooting on The Long Drop will begin next year.
