Shortland Street star Beulah Koale set to make his Hollywood debut in Thank You For Your Service
The first trailer has been released for Kiwi actor Beulah Koale's Hollywood debut.
Thank You For Your Service is a drama that looks at how Post Traumatic Stress Disorder affects American servicemen and women returning home from war.
Starring Whiplash's Miles Teller, comedienne Amy Schumer and The Magnificent Seven's Haley Bennett, the movie sees the mid-20s, former Shortland St actor (he played troubled teen Jared Afeaki between 2012 and 2014) play Solo, an American Samoan soldier who feels that military had made his life better.
Koale's character is based on the true story of soldier Tausolo Aieti, who saved two comrades in Iraq but struggled to cope with the death of a third, who died in combat.
The youngest of six siblings, the Otara-raised Koale became a father-of-two himself late last year when his partner Georgia Otene gave birth to Isaac and Xavier. After his stint on Shortland St, Koale gained plenty of attention for his headlining role in the 2014 New Zealand feature The Last Saint.
Speaking at the time Koale landed his Service role in late 2015, his agency Red11's Colin Moy said their charge was selected after a worldwide search, Skype audition and screen-test.
"As is the case with all actors who screen test for a DreamWorks film, this includes getting the approval of Steven Spielberg, who, we're told, is now a big fan of Beulah's work."
While the movie is set for release in the US in late October, no New Zealand date has been confirmed.
