Nicole Kidman's latest movie Grace of Monaco might have royally tanked at the box-office, but a new YouTube clip shows her and husband wowing the crowds - as a singing duo.

It was a very unexpected surprise for patients, parents and staff at Monash Children's Hospital.

Keith Urban, armed with guitar, and Nicole Kidman turned up unannounced to tour the hospital in Clayton, Victoria, and chat with the starstruck crowd.

The pair led an impromptu version of Amazing Grace (perhaps an unfortunate choice given Grace of Monaco's less than amazing performance).

With country star Urban strumming away and Kidman and the assembled staff and parents singing away, it would have been a rousing morale booster for the hardworking staff and visiting families at the hospital's neonatal intensive care ward, where the clip was filmed.

A spokesman for the hospital, Shane Butler, said staff were "thrilled" about the unexpected visit. "There was a real buzz in the air," he said.

The pair toured both the children's and neonatal ward in their hour-long visit. "They did extremely well," Butler said. "The neonatal ward can be quite confronting, with extremely premature babies, but they were extremely sensitive and very comforting for parents."

The famous couple were in Victoria for the Celebrate Life Foundation gala event on Friday, which raised money for Sydney Children's Hospital in Randwick, of which Kidman is an ambassador, and Monash Children's Hospital. Funds raised for Monash will be used for the building of a new $300 million 230-bed children's hospital set to open in 2016.
