Lorde is set to have the first single in the newest Hunger Games movie album - and she'll curate the movie soundtrack.

The 17-year-old Grammy Award-winner from New Zealand's North Shore said she'd already written the first single with producer Joel Little, and urged her fans: "Be ready."

"I am so pleased and proud to have been announced the sole creator of the soundtrack for MOCKINGJAY - PART 1," she tweeted.

Lorde's latest job involves her hand-picking artists for the album, which is due to be released in the southern hemisphere's spring.

"Curating the soundtrack for such a hotly-anticipated film was a challenge but I jumped at the chance," she said in a press release.

"I think the soundtrack is definitely going to surprise people."

Director Francis Lawrence described what she'd done as "truly remarkable" and said her song completely captured the film's essence.

The movie, starring fan favourite Jennifer Lawrence, is the third in the Hunger Games series and is due to come out this November.

In a trailer for Mockingjay Part I, Lawrence as Katniss is shown entering the underground bunker where refugees of Panem are hiding, where she agrees to take up their cause after President Snow (Donald Sutherland) declares the Mockingjay symbol illegal.

The sneak peek opens with a hovership landing and a meeting between leaders of the rebellion, where Phillip Seymour Hoffman and a gray-haired Julianne Moore discuss Katniss Everdeen's role.

It is one of the last roles for Hoffman, who died of a drug overdose in February. He was unable to complete the film, however the director has ruled out using computer-generated imagery of Plutarch.

"We finished the majority of his work. I think he might have had eight to 10 days left on our schedule. In most of those scenes, Phil didn't have any dialogue. We are going to put him into those scenes, but we're only using real footage. We're not creating anything digital or a robotic version of him," he said.
