US rocker Pete Wentz has revealed he's hosting the upcoming Australian MTV Awards and could be bringing his singer wife Ashley Simpson with him.
Wentz and his band Fall Out Boy have wrapped up their Australian visit playing to 500 guests aboard the Royal Australian Navy vessel HMAS Tobruk at Garden Island, for an Xbox Sounds event today.
But before going on stage Wentz revealed he was looking forward to coming back to the country, to host the Australian MTV Awards at Darling Harbour on March 27.
"I just found out," Wentz said.
"I'm very excited."
Wentz didn't bring his famous singer wife Ashley Simpson-Wentz and baby son Bronx with him this time around due to the Victorian bushfires.
He may bring them next month, but said "I don't know yet".
Wentz said it had been hard being away from Bronx while in Australia.
"I do miss him," he said.
The band – made up of bassist Wentz, vocalist Patrick Stump, guitarist Joe Trohman and drummer Andy Hurley, arrived by boat to perform at the Xbox Sounds event.
"It's cool. I got sea sick when I saw the boat," Wentz said.
"When I saw the thing just kind of like tilting I was like, I think I'm going to barf."
Like guests, Fall Out Boy were subject to security checks, and had to show ID.
"We definitely had to go through security and give them our passports and stuff," Trohman said.
Guests – which included competition winners, navy staff, and media, were subject to multiple bag checks and had to sign a waver document.
Fall Out Boy thrilled the crowd playing songs such as America's Suitehearts and I Don't Care.
Wentz thanked the Australian Navy and said he was trying to control his swearing.
"In America, they would never let us on board a ship," Wentz told the crowd."
Fall Out Boy leave for New Zealand this afternoon, and said their Australian visit had been their best ever.
"They've been the best Australian shows we've played, it's been awesome," Wentz said.
"The crowd has been so receptive of our new record and we've been able to try out more new material on this tour.
"We haven't even really played the States on it yet, so it's pretty cool. So it's kind of cool to be playing out here the first time."
Fall Out Boy's fifth studio album Folie a Deux was released in December.
The event was broadcast nationally on radio station Nova 969.
