A rock supergroup comprised of legendary musicians John Paul Jones, Josh Homme and Dave Grohl will tour New Zealand in January next year, it has been confirmed.

Them Crooked Vultures will perform at Wellington's TSB Arena on January 29, and at Auckland's Vector Arena on January 30.

The supergroup - which is yet to release an album and has only performed a handful of live shows - is comprised of Led Zeppelin's Jones, Queens of the Stone Age's Homme, and Grohl from Nirvana and Foo Fighters.

Snippets from two songs - Scumbag Blues and Nobody Loves Me and Neither Do I - have been posted on YouTube, as well as footage of the band performing in their studio.

Tickets for the shows go on sale on September 22.
