New rule changes for next year's Big Day Out will stop anyone under the age of 15 from attending the music festival.

At previous Big Day Out festivals at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland, anyone underage was allowed to attend as long as they were accompanied by an adult.

But TV3 News reported no one under the age of 15 would be allowed to attend 2010's event, on January 15, after a ruling from the Big Day Out's Australian organisers.

"It's just becoming hard with kids," Big Day Out promoter Campbell Smith told TV3 News.

"Parents are bringing them in and not taking responsibility for them."

Teenagers over the age of 15 would need identification, Smith said.

Next year's festival will be headlined by Muse, with Dizzee Rascal, Lily Allen, The Mars Volta, Mastodon, The Horrors, Groove Armada and Calvin Harris also named to perform.

I think it is a good idea to have a cut off and why not 14 years. At least with a cut off we wont have to put up with pushchairs and toddlers getting under our feet.

I personally prefer it to be just later teens and adults.

Im 14 and i wan't to go, my birthdays only a month later, i think it should be that if your turning 15 during the year then your allowed to go. But thing is, some 14 year olds are very mature for their age, in my school there are many mature 14 year olds, and they hang around with people older than them wich make then feel as if they must act more mature to be friends with them, this is a good thing for people in some ways, since they will not act childish and silly.

i'm 17 years old and would definitly support an R18 ban if ment seeing a decent lineup. There was an article about how great the lineup was coz all the bands had albums on the hit list now, What a load of bull! The industry needs to stop doing that-dictating what we're listening to. Coz in the end all the bands end up being one hit wonders. I wont be paying $132.00 (add flights and accommodation on top of that) . I hope more anoucements will come with better bands then it my be worth my time and money. Poor effort! One of the worst lineups i've heard in years!

At my first Big Day Out I was 14. I went with all of my mates to see KoRn, Manson, Hole, Soulfly etc in 1999. We were a lot smaller than others and got smashed in the moshpit but it was awesome. At that age you get into rock and metal and you're rebelling, so it is a real shame that these kids can't go! Especially given that this is the only festival (apart from R n V now) in the year that gets a good range of 'pop' international acts. I think I was more behaved and mature at the age of 14 than I am now, so it makes no sense at all making it R15! I cause far more trouble now that I'm over 18 . . . :)

You'd think with a line-up as bad as this one they'd be trying to get more people, but they're excluding them. Older people hate BDO anyway, it's the kids that like that environment, it really just defeats the purpose. So now some 14 year old won't get to see their favourite band. Nice one.
