Hyped indie band Vampire Weekend will perform a single New Zealand show at the end of April.
The New York-based quartet, which released its second album Contra earlier this year to rave reviews, will perform at the Bruce Mason Centre on Auckland's North Shore on April 29 before heading to Australia for a string of shows there.
Their first album, 2008's self-titled release, went to No. 1 in the UK and contained the singles Oxford Comma, A-Punk and Mansard Roof.
Tickets for the show go on sale on February 22. A pre-sale begins on February 18.

@Fi - you are either going to have to move up to live in Auckland or just get over the fact that even if Wellington/Christchurch could sell out Vampire Weekend (which i doubt) its still not work their time for band to do a 3 gig show in NZ unless they are selling out stadiums.
yay!!! i've been told they're awesome live!!
Wilco and Vampire Weekend in the same week! Oh yeah!
omg i can't wait, the video for "cousins" is unreal, this is a band to watch for 2010
I bet half the audience will be from Welly anyway. They really should be playing there. Disappointing
It doesn't really matter if Aukland is the biggest city, the promoters will still make the same money if they put on a N.I and a S.I show. Why should we in the S.I be made to pay twice or three times as much to see a show because of flights, accomodation, time off work etc? I love these guys but there is no way i can afford the time or money to go to Aukland. Promoters: Get your fingers out, stop being lazy, make the long journey worthwhile for the bands and sort out some decent S.I gigs!
L #4 no not masterton but maybe wellington, christchurch auckland is not the only place a band can get a decent crowd. i think im entitled to get a little sick of constantly having to take days off work to fly to auckland and miss my sport everytime a band i want to see comes to nz
Well it WOULD be nice if they came to Wellington... it is central after all. but wotevs, im still gonna be there!!!
I will be there!

Umm actually they were the band to watch for 2009, just cos this country is unbelievably behind at recognizing talent and continues to play crap on most major radio stations.
