Band of Horses say they are looking forward to "exploring" when they come to New Zealand in August.

The alt-country act, which last performed here at a sold out show at The King's Arms in July, 2008, will play at The Powerstation on August 3 to promote their new album, Infinite Arms.

Guitarist Tyler Ramsey told Stuff.co.nz they were looking forward to the show.

"We had such a blast there last time," he said.

"I think we hit it on a weird couple of days. The weather was rainy and cold, I’m really hoping we go back there when it’s not raining and we can explore a little bit."

Band of Horses will also be playing several Australian tour dates as well as the Splendour in the Grass festival.

Tickets for the Auckland show go on sale on May 21.

Infinite Arms is released on Monday. Check back next week for a full interview with Ramsey.
