Pearl Jam front man Eddie Vedder says the popular grunge act have played their last show for a "long time".
The rockers, who toured New Zealand late last year, were performing at the Optimus Alive festival in Lisbon when Vedder made the announcement, NME reported.
Near the beginning of their set, Vedder read from a sheet of paper in Portugese and said the band would be going on hiatus, the website for the British music magazine said.
"Thank you for coming to our last show," he told the crowd. "Not our last ever, but our last in a long time."
No Pearl Jam tours have been scheduled for the rest of 2010 or 2011, and the band's drummer Matt Cameron is rejoining Soundgarden for their upcoming reunion shows.
Pearl Jam released their last album, Backspacer, was released in 2009.

Sorry, you're right. TEN was Dave Krusen who had mean chops on that record. I still stand by what I say regarding Dave Abbruzeese. He was a few years younger than the rest of the crew and he brought a lot of energy... I'd have been happy had PJ melted down after that. As I said - its just my personal opinion but their work post Vitalogy is lacking.
Cheers.
I'd believe it. with the reunion of Soundgarden, not only will Matt Cameron be touring live, I imagine they'll be keen to get back in the studio which will keep him too busy for touring or recording with Pearl Jam.
At the September 25/09 show in Vancouver, Ed said at the end of the concert and I quote "see you all next year". My guess or hope is a few months rest and then three or four closing shows. It's happened before

not really news at all - let alone true news.
We'll wait and see. However if that is the case, good on them as they have been around the world. Even Chch!
Dave A never played on Ten. He was a good drummer but they admitted that if he hadn't gone they wouldn't still be around.
I appreciate what they have achieved but they were never the same band after they abruptly fired Dave Abbruzzese after their recordings for Vitalogy (August 1994). Just lost a lot of punch in thier sound after his termination and for me personally, I could not get into anything after thier first 3 (Ten, Vs, Vitalogy). I believe that is testament to Dave and the sound and mix he brought into the band.
Quoting Max, they say this at the end of all tours. I was at the 02 last year and they said this - 10 months later they are back in Europe! Next year is 20 years next year since the release of 10, they might not do a full scale tour but they are bound to do something to celebrate it
Lets just hope it won't be that long. I hope to see them here again soon. Pearl Jam are one of the best rock bands of the last twenty years, if not the best.

I saw them in New Orleans at Jazz Fest in April 2010, and previous to that in San Francisco at Outside Lands in Aug 09. They are still one of the best live rock acts out there without a doubt. I'm sure this wasn't their last, there's way too much money to be made and fans to be sated for that to happen.
