An avid Christchurch U2 fan has launched an online crusade to bring her favourite band to the city.

The Irish supergroup will play one concert at Auckland's Mt Smart Stadiumon November 25 but Ilam mother Chelsea Daly has created a Facebook page she hopes will encourage Bono and company to perform in Christchurch.

The online approach worked for Metallica fans earlier this year when thousands of people joined en masse to convince that band to schedule a Garden City gig.

Daly said she could see no reason why the same method could not work again.

As of noon today, the Facebook page had attracted 109 supporters and Daly was aiming for 2500.

"I think we can do this … support is growing very fast,'' she told The Press.

Daly, who hoped to buy tickets to the Auckland concert, hoped tour promoters would take notice of the page and bring the massive U2 tour south.

She was using Facebook, Twittera and other social networking sites to spread the word.

The Bring U2 To Christchurch facebook page can be viewed here.

Just to put it out there, Wellington needs a better promoter. Thats why we tend to miss out the big acts. I'm going to Auckland, you do not want to miss it!

Not all of us want to keep traveling up to Auckland to see concerts and a lot of bands or promoters believe that we dont have the facilities to host such events. I think most mainlanders believe that there should be a show in each islands main centers. I also think that our council should spend less money on sandcastle trips and more time promoting our city and its facilities and just maybe big ticket players like U2ould see the benifit of coming south.

I don't think it's fair to say Aucklanders are arrogant, I am going to attend the Auckland concert and I joined the Christchurch group to support my fellow U2 fans!

What's the difference between God and Bono? God doesn't walk around Dublin thinking he's Bono.

I might go if they promised that they wouldn't play any song they've written in the last 15 years.

Well the ticket prices start @ $39.95 and go up to $350.00 :o)

As for a Chch concert, it will not happen, if there is a 2nd concert it will be in Auckland :o)

Of course I could be proved wrong :o)

I agree with Bono. Also good on them sorting out a facebook page. You Aucklanders would'nt do that if it was the other way around. You would just sit there and complain (as always) I would much rather travel to Christchurch to for a concert than Auckland. Christchurch is just so much better!

why not have them come to wgtn instead of trying to get them to boring chch. wgtn is spak bang in the middle of both if you cant afford to go to akl then try and get them to play in wgtn, the capital always misses out
