Rumours that Rage Against the Machine will perform at next year's Big Day Out music festival have intensified after tour dates for the reformed rock act were announced in Australia.
Blog: Starting the rumour mill
Rage Against the Machine reformed earlier this year after Chris Cornell left Audioslave and the remaining members reunited with singer Zach de la Rocha.
They played their first concert in eight years at the Coachella Festival in America, and have been touring on-and-off ever since.
Australian music website Undercover.com.au reported Rage would play the Sydney Entertainment Centre on January 22 and Melbourne's Festival Hall on January 30.
The Big Day Out is on in Sydney on January 24 and Melbourne on January 27, and the website suggested this meant that Rage was "obviously one of the headline acts for Big Day Out".
The touring festival begins in New Zealand on January 18.
The rumours have also circulated on Stuff.co.nz's entertainment blog The Hitlist.
A poster called Ryan said: "It's true they are headlining. I cannot provide proof because I would lose my contacts for information like this if I revealed them. Sorry. Just trust me, it's true.
Another poster, Dave, said: "Hey RATM have definitely been confirmed, they are headlining ... trust me."
Rage were one of the biggest rock bands of the '90s, hitting it big with a blend of hip-hop, metal and punk. They released four studio albums and are best known for the song Killing in the Name.
The official Big Day Out 2008 line-up will be revealed on October 2 at 9am on Stuff.co.nz.
