Chart-topping pop star Katy Perry has invited Auckland electro-pop artist Zowie to open her shows in New Zealand and Australia.
Zoe "Zowie" Fleury and band have just returned from Austin's SXSW music festival where they received a lot of praise by critics and fans.
"Zowie delivered a powerful performance, playing a set of songs that neatly balanced between edgy electronica and sweeping girl-power rock," the Grammy blog wrote.
The singer was also named by US celebrity blogger Perez Hilton as one of the top five artists to watch in 2011 after posting her first single Broken Machine on his website late last year.
She told Stuff.co.nz his praise had kickstarted her career in America.
"There have been lots of fans from the States, fans on Facebook and plays on MySpace - everything has just gone crazy. He's got a lot of power and he's such a music lover so it's been awesome for us."
Zowie, formerly known as Bionic Pixie, had a NZ top 10 hit with Broken Machine and is planning to release her debut album in a few months.
Following the success of her album Teenage Dream, Katy Perry will perform in New Zealand for the first time. She is set to play two shows in Auckland, on May 7 and 8, and one in Wellington on May 10.
May 7: Vector Arena, Auckland
May 8: Vector Arena, Auckland
