Jon Toogood's new musical project is heading out on tour.

The Shihad front man has been busy working on his new project The Adults, which features an all-star cast of New Zealand musicians including Anika Moa, Julia Deans, Hollie Smith, Shayne Carter, Tiki Taane, Ladi6 and The Mint Chicks.

Ahead of the album's launch on June 20, Stuff.co.nz has been hosting behind-the-scenes videos of The Adults as they record their debut album. Part one is here, part two can be viewed above and part three will premiere next Thursday.

The album will be followed by a comprehensive 11-date New Zealand tour during July that takes in all the main centres as well as Timaru, Queenstown, Napier and Dunedin.

Toogood will be accompanied by Deans and Carter on The Adults tour.

Carter took a bit of persuading to come on board for the tour, says Toogood.

"Shayne took a bit of convincing. But I watched him start smiling after a couple of songs and by the end it was, 'Hmm, this is going to be great.'

"We'll be travelling light, but we're going to put on a big show."
