British rockers Def Leppard will perform alongside Heart at Vector Arena in October, it has been announced.

The Pour Some Sugar on Me rockers will perform in Auckland on October 12, along with Heart, who are famous for their hit All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You.

It will be Heart's first time in New Zealand. Def Leppard were last here in November, 2008.

Frontman Joe Elliott said the band would be playing three new songs on the tour, taken from their recent live album Mirrorball.

Guitarist Phil Collen said they would also be bringing an "amazing" light show with them.

He said Def Leppard were playing better than ever.

"It's an event, we're running around like crazy, we're better than we've ever been," he said.

"We think we're the best rock band out there."

Tickets for the show go on sale on July 18.
