Soul legend Aretha Franklin's breakthrough record has been voted the greatest album ever released by a female artist.

Franklin's I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You topped the poll by music magazine Rolling Stone, beating out fellow veterans Joni Mitchell and Patti Smith as well as new voices like Adele.
