DINOSAUR JR.: Rocking like it's 1988

American alternative rock veterans Dinosaur Jr have released the first single of their tenth studio album I Bet on Sky.
The new track, Watch the Corners, catapults me right back into the 90s, when I was a teenager brooding in my room while listing to Dinosaur Jr's Bug as loud as my dingy little speakers would let me.
After decades of acrimony and personnel changes the band around silver-haired singer-guitarist J Mascis re-united in 2005 in its original line-up and has since released two acclaimed albums.
The trio have now finished recording their third album since reuniting at Mascis' home in Amherst, Massachusetts, which is set to be released on September 18
"I guess on this record, I wasn't as worried if we could play the songs live," Mascis tells Rolling Stone Magazine. "[On] the other two records [2007's Beyond and 2009's Farm], I was thinking of it being more songs that we could play live and tour more. I guess that's what's kind of different about this album: I just did what I felt would sound good."
The new song features Dinosaur Jr's trademark fuzzy, distorted guitars and Mascis distinctive, droning vocals but has a more relaxed feel to it than their earlier tracks. It also sports an amazing guitar solo and suddenly switches from electric guitar to acoustic and back, a trick Mascis says he's nicked from Black Sabbath.
I can't wait for the new album, to beam me back into the 90s.
What's the band that reminds you most of being a teenager?
