Christchurch musician Karoline Tamati, who performs as Ladi6, is a finalist in the global 2012 Unsigned Only Music Competition with her hit song, Like Water

The 100 finalists from 80 countries were chosen from over 7500 entries and compete in nine categories.

Tamati is a finalist in the pop/top-40 category.

Tiki Taane is a finalist in the adult contemporary section for My Lion, featuring Optimus Gryme, aka Charlie Brown.

The track is a remix that played at the 2011 Rugby World Cup opening ceremony.

Judges include Kenny Rogers, Cyndi Lauper, The Cure's Robert Smith, Kelly Clarkson and Angie Stone.

Unsigned Only is designed for solo artists and bands not signed to a major record company.

A people's choice prize, Fandemonium, is open for public vote on the competition's Facebook page.
