Gotye has paid tribute to the hundreds of YouTube covers of his huge hit Somebody That I Used To Know by posting his own remix.
The Australian singer has overlayed fan versions of the song into a stunning mash-up, Somebodies: A YouTube Orchestra, which he released on Monday.
Described as a "a video response to the phenomenon of Somebody That I Used To Know", the remix is the first creative project Gotye has undertaken in the 18 months since his Making Mirrors album.
"I couldn't resist the musical aspect of it because there have been so many interpretations posted on YouTube," Gotye - aka Wally De Backer - said.
"There's such a deep potential level of remixability in the versions that are out there that I bowed to the temptation."
With Somebody That I Used To Know surpassing sales of 10 million and topping charts around the world, Gotye has attempted to downplay the hysteria surrounding the song.
As a fan of the many parodies posted online since the song took off, the keen remixer hopes his alternative version will draw a line under the craze.
"I was reluctant on the one hand because on some level it draws more attention back to a song that's already so big," De Backer said.
"But if it resonates with people and it's good enough as a piece of work then maybe it'll feel like a bit of a last word.
"To me that would have a really beautiful circularity to it."
Gotye has also released the single Save Me, featuring a video created by the Melbourne animation studio Piepants.
It will go some way to catching Somebody That I Used To Know, which is the 10th most-watched music video of all time on YouTube with 300 million views.
