Kiwi singers Kimbra and Gin Wigmore are in the running for best worldwide act at MTV's EMA awards.

They both are featured in the first round of voting, with fans now having to back one of them to represent New Zealand/Australia in the category.

Gotye, 360 and Temper Trap were also in the running.

But it's not Kimbra's only chance to win. Her duet with Aussie artist Gotye, Somebody That I Used To Know, is also up for best song.

Rihanna and Taylor Swift are the artists to beat at the awards, with six and five nominations each respectively.

While teen star Justin Bieber and Katy Perry are up for four EMA awards each, including Best Pop and Biggest Fans.

Jay-Z, Kanye West, Green Day, and One Direction were among the other nominees.

The show will air on November 12 from Frankfurt.
