Marlborough opera fan Tyler Redmond's surprise performance
Young opera fan Tyler Redmond made it to centre stage sooner than he thought with a little help from Sol3 Mio.
The 12-year-old was determined to see his idols live so the show's promoters arranged a double backstage pass to the concert in Blenheim on Monday.
He had no idea they would ask him to sing on stage with them for the show's finale, Tyler said.
"It was amazing. They were the most amazing people ever. They were so genuine."
Tyler hung out with the trio as they prepared for the show, and met some of their family who Tyler had read about, he said.
The Sol3 Mio boys sang I See Fire for Tyler before the show.
"It actually sounded way better than when they were on the stage. They were just booming. You'd think they had thousands of dollars of sound equipment, but it was literally just their voices. It was phenomenal."
They also signed the albums his neighbours gave him for Christmas.
Later that night during the performance, Tyler won a dance competition on stage when he faced off against Sol3 Mio's security guards.
Then they invited him back onto the stage for the finale to sing Fix You and the first part of I See Fire.
"When I sung on the stage with them they said I'd be an amazing opera singer one day, because I put my mind to it," he said.
Tyler's mother Joanna said their neighbour, who accompanied Tyler, thought it was the most amazing night of her life.
"She said they were just such wonderful, wonderful people. It was the most uplifting experience for both of them," she said.
Tyler was on such a high when he got home that night he was awake until 1am, she said.
Tyler went to tell some of his neighbours about the concert on Tuesday morning.
Blenheim was the second stop on Sol3 Mio's On Another Note tour after Nelson two days earlier.
