Forget Gangnam Style - its Zombie Style in Wellington.

A group of the undead have recreated the video for the chart-topping Korean song.

But they've added a flesh-eating twist to rapper Psy's signature dance move - the ''invisible horse dance'' - with zombies performing the song around Wellington.

The Beehive, Majestic Centre and Matangi trains are among the backdrops used in the video, which has had more than 55,000 views on YouTube since it was posted on Saturday.

The video follows a flashmob two weeks ago to promote Wellington's first Zombie Island Horror Run, being held tomorrow.

Organised by Adventure Wellington, the 130 participants will run 5km through Matiu/Somes Island in search of an antidote Matiu/Somes Island, while being chased around the island by the hordes of zombies. All proceeds from the event will go towards Wellington SPCA.

Organiser Roy Hoogmoed said the Gangnam Style video was developed after the 60 zombies - whittled down from about 150 people who auditioned - broke out in the dance during the recent flash mob at Wellington Railway Station.

''For some reason, that resulted in 'let's do the whole video'. Before we knew it we had a whole camera crew shooting over four to five days.''

The zombies were ready to terrify the runners tomorrow, he said.

''People will be in for quite a surprise, because the ideas are quite over-the-top for some of the locations ... it will be very, very creepy.''

The organisers had wanted to put a ''quirky'' twist on a fun run and with Halloween days away the zombie theme had seemed obvious, he said.

''What would be more exciting for runners than to actually be chased by zombies?''

While the runners would be at the starting line at 5pm, the zombies would start becoming the undead from about 11am, due to the long make-up process involved.
