A Tiki Taane concert on Waiheke Island carried on last night despite a scrub fire blazing nearby for almost two hours.

Four fire crews were called to the fire at Matiatia Bay at about 8.45 last night.

A Fire Service spokesperson said the blaze took over about 500 square meters of scrub near The Bay restaurant, which was hosting an event dubbed The Waiheke Blowout, featuring Taane and DJ Optimus Grime.

More than 400 people were at the show.

An employee from The Bay said the fire started out small but got "really big actually".

"It was actually quite scary."

She said it was on a hill about 300m from The Bay, but it never looked like it was going to come close to the restaurant.

Event organiser Lisa Bell confirmed the concert was unaffected by the incident.  She denied rumours the fire was started by someone who had been thrown out of the concert.

One person was arrested at the scene and police said enquiries were continuing.

On the event's Facebook page, concert-goer Tory Dixon summed up the feeling: "what a night apart from hil burning dwn'[sic].
