Van Wel's song heads for gold
New Zealand's Got Talent winner Clara van Wel's single of her winning song has reached number three in its first week in the singles section of the official New Zealand music chart.
The 15-year-old Blenheim school girl said she was thrilled with sales of the song Where Do You Find Love. The song was also the top selling single by a New Zealand act during the past week.
"This is something I wouldn't have even imagined two weeks ago," she said.
Sales numbers were not known yet, but the song was expected to go gold, reaching 7500 digital and CD sales within the next couple of weeks, Jaden Parkes, from Sony Music New Zealand said.
Parkes, who worked with van Wel on the single and is working with her on an album, said it was "amazing" for a New Zealand artist to get to number three on the chart after the first week, up against the biggest international acts with their promotional budgets and air time.
"It shows how people really connected with the song and want to own it and listen to it," Parkes said.
"It's amazing for someone her age to write a song able to connect with such a wide range of people. We're very excited about it."
Van Wel said it was a "crazy feeling" knowing her music was out there.
"I love making music, and the recording experience I had with the single was spectacular," she said.
She was working with Parkes on choosing songs for the album, recording of which was due to start in January.
Parkes said van Wel's songs had a range of different emotions and feels.
Some songs on the album would be just van Wel singing and playing the guitar, while others would be worked up with a band and different instrumentation.
